My name is Kathy Long and I have been a passionate cloth diaperer for 8 years now. I have three children (Jack 8, Riley 6 and Cooper 14 months) and another baby on the way due in August and I've been married 10 years.
I started out with a diaper service for my oldest son, but quit because the diapers seemed too bulky, the rubber pants were too stiff and gross and wasn't given any support by the service company. Plus. it seemed expensive!
A few months of disposable diapers and many nasty diaper rashes later, I found some really cool new products on the internet and thought I'd experiment and see if I could find a solution to the angry red rashes on my sons bottom. I bought some pocket diapers make with PUL and microfleece lined with hemp inserts. Very trim, and very cute! Jack never got another rash again. His skin is just always tender and sensitive (he's a redhead!) so we wash all our clothes and diapers with chemical free enzymatic detergents.
Then I had Riley. Two children in diapers with a blossoming potty trainer. Yikes! I started Riley off with prefolds and breathable, trim diaper wraps. Since I breastfed, I could just toss the diaper in the wash, no rinsing. It was so easy. Jack of course started potty training and I feel like he trained earlier than he would have because of cloth, he trained almost exactly on his 3rd birthday, day AND night. Riley trained himself at age 2 and again, I attribute it to cloth diapers. They just know when they are wet and it's uncomfortable enough to train to underwear.
After several years of wanting to have a third baby, I gave up. I gave away my lovely diaper stash and all my baby stuff. Went back to school and guess what? I got pregnant again!
I started researching cloth diapers right away. Found some old favorites and several new favorites quickly. After Cooper was born, I started itching to do something that filled me up. After brainstorming, I decided that my passion for cloth diapering just needed to be shared. My friends are probably sick of me waxing poetic about textiles, so now I want to share my love with you!
Soon, my new baby will be born. I'll be dragging out the old standby's, but through my researching journey, I'm excited to try so many cool new products. And with the Potty Praiser Potty training kits? I'm totally stoked to see how it works for Cooper!
Thank you for visiting Diaper Dash and let me know if there is anything I can provide for you, or even if you have questions.
Love,
Kathy Long
